I am a Colorado Certified Math Teacher with a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Composite Science. I received the honor of becoming a Nationally Board Certified Teacher of Mathematics in 2010. I started teaching in 2003 and have dedicated most of my professional time since to making a mathematical difference for kids all the way from Kindergarten thru high school. I am adept at figuring out exactly where kids are with their mathematical understanding, what gaps or misconceptions exist, and creating the next steps that students need. I am also extremely talented at helping kids learn math many different ways– all the ways they need until we find the one that makes sense!
I am so passionate about helping students understand and enjoy math because I was the kid who was okay at math, but who never felt like I really got it. I felt surrounded by people who were smarter and better at math than me. It took me until I started teaching math before I realized that actually, I’m pretty great at math and it’s FUN! My hope is that I can help students have a much different experience than I did with math, and KNOW that they are good at math and excellent at thinking from a young age, but most importantly, through middle and high school when math enjoyment unfortunately tends to fade for many students.
